Great Hammerhead (Sphyrna mokarran)

Conservation Status: Endangered

Their most recognizable feature is their strangely shaped head. They live near coasts and can often be seen near the surface. It occasionally forms schools. It is said that the hammerhead sharks are the ones with the most elaborated electromagnetic sense due to the specially shaped head. They can have a stereomap of the magnetic field.

Length: about 5-6 m

Litter size: up to 55

Major threats: Overfishing and Shark finning. Most Hammerhead Shark species have declined by 95 % within the ast 20 years.
